PHOENIX (AP) -
A man has been extradited from Scotland to Arizona and will be tried in federal court for allegedly importing chemicals to manufacture methamphetamine.
Prosecutors say 48-year-old Brian Howes, of West Lothian, was ordered by a judge to remain in custody pending his scheduled Sept. 5 trial.
A federal grand jury in Phoenix returned an 82-count indictment against Howes in September 2007.
It alleges Howes was the founder and owner of an internet business that operated a website to import and distribute red phosphorus and iodine. Authorities say the chemicals are used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
The indictment alleges Howes sold approximately 6,900 grams of red phosphorus and 4,850 grams of iodine to customers in Arizona between 2004 and 2006.
Authorities didn't know Thursday whether Howes has a lawyer yet.
