PHOENIX (AP) -
The largest of 13 lightning-caused wildfires near the Arizona-Utah border are either contained or close to full containment.
The blazes began July 11 and three of them merged to form the Hobble Complex Fire. It was 75 percent contained Thursday after charring almost 35,000 acres on the Arizona Strip about 35 miles south of St. George, Utah.
The Plateau Fire is fully contained after burning nearly 3,200 acres some 30 miles south of the Hobble Complex Fire.
Arizona Strip District officials say nine of the remaining fires are on the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. Rain has slowed those fires, which haven't been accurately mapped yet for acreage.
Officials say three outbuildings have been destroyed by the Hobble Complex Fire, which burned public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management.
