TUCSON, AZ (AP) -
Tucson could break a record for the number of days reaching 100 degrees in a single year.
The current record, set in 1994, is 99 days.
The number of triple-digit days so far this year is 46, the Arizona Daily Star reported.
Meteorologist J.J. Brost said Tucson got off to a fast start on the run to a new record by hitting its first 100-degree mark in April. Highs in the 90s in recent days have slowed the pace, but this week's forecast could help push Tucson toward the record.
Brost said Tucson would need to have more 100-degree days in July and then hit 100 almost daily in August and for part of September to reach the record.
He said those temperatures also are possible in October.
