PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A Mesa woman was arrested after police said she hit her son with a broom handle, hanger and a metal chair Monday night.

Kathleen Ruzich was charged with one count of child abuse after the assault, according to court documents.

Her son called dispatchers and told them he needed medical assistance after getting in a fight.

Police said they found the victim crying and holding his face when they arrived at the scene.

The left side of his face and his left eye were swollen, police said. He also had multiple marks on his ribs and arms that appeared to be marks from a hanger. His left forearm was swollen where he said had been hit by a chair.

He told police that Ruzich had assaulted him and kicked him out of the house.

Ruzich told police she had been frustrated with the victim because he had an "attitude" and wouldn't go to his grandmother's house, according to police. She told them she "socked' the victim in the face with a closed fist and then pushed him on the bed where she struck him numerous times.

Ruzich told police the victim then struck her with a screw driver and tried to get away. She said she then hit him with a hanger and broom stick and threw several items at the boy before telling him to leave the house.
