MESA, AZ (AP) -
A flight from Las Vegas to the Phoenix suburb of Mesa has landed safely after the plane's pilot shut down one engine.
Federal Aviation Administration officials say the MD-83 touched down without incident around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
A Mesa Fire Department official said the plane was operated by Nevada-based Allegiant Airlines, which has offered scheduled commercial service from Gateway since October 2007.
But FAA officials say the plane was a public-use aircraft operated by a federal agency and not Allegiant.
It wasn't immediately clear how many people were aboard the flight and FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the plane's one engine was shut down for unknown reasons.
