Coconino County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a body found in burned vehicle in a remote part of the county.
Ranchers found the burned vehicle five miles south of Interstate 40 Saturday and reported it to the sheriff's office. They said they were in the area for about two weeks herding livestock and hadn't noticed the vehicle, according to sheriff's documents.
Deputies are investigating if the body is of the car's owner who was reported missing with the Mesa police July 6, authorities said. The person who reported the man missing believed the he may be suicidal because he made verbal suicide threats recently.
The sheriff's office is working with the Flagstaff Fire Department Arson Investigators and the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office Death Investigators to identify the body and investigate the suspicious death.
The vehicle is believed to be a 2003 gray, four-door Dodge Dakota pickup truck with a truck bed cover. Investigates are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the Welch Road area south of Ash Fork with in the past two weeks to call the sheriff's office at 989-774-4523.
