LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ (AP) -
A fencing project to keep wild burros off the roadway near Lake Havasu City is under way.
The News-Herald reports that five wild burros were killed last year in less than a month after being struck by vehicles in the area.
The $230,000 project to install fencing on State Route 95 from Lake Havasu City to the Interstate 40 interchange is expected to start next spring and be completed within three months.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department says the fencing will allow wildlife to move freely while restricting movement of wild burros.
The project currently in the scoping phase is being funded by the state Department of Transportation.
