PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A Mesa man will be in federal court this afternoon to face charges in connection with the Sunflower Fire.
Prosecutors say 23-year-old Steven Craig Shiflet was with a group of friends back in May for a bachelor party camping trip at the Tonto National Forest. Investigators say Shiflet loaded an incendiary shotgun shell and fired it, and that sparked the massive wildfire.
The fire has burned 18,000 acres.
If convicted, Shiflet faces a maximum penalty of six months in jail for each charges, a $5,000 fine or both.
