PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A 21-year-old man has been arrested and jailed on charges of second-degree murder in the traffic death of a pregnant woman July 5.

Rigoberto Gonzalez was arrested and taken to the Maricopa County Jail after his release from a Phoenix hospital Wednesday.

Gonzalez is suspected of driving a red Volvo sedan that ran a red light at a Phoenix intersection and struck an SUV, killing Karlisha Randolph, 24, who was nine months pregnant, said Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix police.

She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center where physicians successfully delivered her baby boy. Randolph died at the hospital. The child was in a medically-induced coma.

Police said Gonzalez is believed to have turned in front of a bus at Dunlap and 35th avenues and sped away from the scene moments before the fatal crash. No one on the bus was injured.

Complicating matters was another suspected drunken driver who blew through the investigation scene at 39th and Northern avenues.

Thompson said 45-year-old Bryan Kent Mitchell was driving a Cadillac sedan that drove past traffic barricades, narrowly missed officers directing traffic and collided with police vehicles, totaling one of them.

He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and endangerment charges.

He was also hospitalized with minor injuries, Thompson said.
