PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Violent weather late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning left a trail of damage in Phoenix.
A lightning strike is believed to have started a fire at an office building at 40th Street and Camelback Road about 1 a.m. Thursday.
Firefighter said they believed the strike hit the roof of the building and a sprinkling system on the second floor prevented the fire from spreading. Most of the damage was from water and smoke, and the business owner was expected to return to the office by Monday, firefighters said.
A cleaning crew working in the building quickly called 911, and fire crews arrived quickly.
Another lightning strike sparked a billboard fire that also knocked out some power near 16th Street and Elwood Avenue.
The billboard caught fire and pieces fell onto the street and some nearby power lines, taking them out.
There were no injuries in either case.
