Antique store auctions relics to help shooting survivor

CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -

It's been more than two months since police said a man with Neo-Nazi ties killed his girlfriend and three members of her family in Gilbert.

Detectives said JT Ready was the triggerman and that he also took his own life.

They said Ready and his girlfriend, Lisa Mederos, fought often.

The sole survivor, Mederos' 19-year-old daughter Brittany, has a lot of healing to do.  A Chandler antique store is doing what it can to help.

Mederos was an avid antiquer, and after she died, her family wasn't sure what to do with her extensive collection.

So they asked the people at Merchant Square to help.

"She was a beloved customer who we got to see often in our store," said Merchant Square's Mindy Gillen.

If you walk into Merchant Square this month, you'll notice an unusual display.  It's a collection of rare items with a familiar name out in front.

Mederos is more than just a headline for people there.  She was a customer and a friend.

She was a woman who relished in relics of a different era and built a collection over a lifetime.

"It is a lifetime of collecting, and some of these things are very rare and unusual to find here in the Valley, especially," Gillen said.

When Mederos' family asked Market Square to help share those memories with others, they had one requirement.

"One hundred percent of the proceeds from this auction will go to benefit her surviving daughter Brittany, who is 19 years old, so whatever we can do to help her," Gillen said.

From now until the end of the month, there's a silent auction where people can bid on any item they'd like.

"If this isn't your cup of tea but you feel compelled to do something to help the family, we encourage you to come down and just enjoy the tour of her precious things and you can donate here, and we'll get that to her daughter as well," Gillen said.
