PHOENIX (CBS5) -
We know how hard it is for Arizona lawmakers to balance our state budget, but on Wednesday some local college students are taking a shot at it.
It's part of a two-day event at the state capitol called Business and Public Policy.
Forty executive MBA students from Arizona State University's WP Carey School of Business played the roles of legislators and lobbyists.
"They get a very hands-on experience of how the public policy process works, they feel it, they taste it, they smell it. They actually play it. They come away with much more insight than we could ever get by talking about it in the classroom," explained Gerry Keim with the WP Carey School of Business.
On Wednesday, Arizona lawmakers and business leaders gave the students a crash course in policy making.
Their goal is to try to pass their own mock budget on the Senate floor.
