PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A fugitive on the ATF's "Most Wanted" list was arrested Monday while attempting to enter the U.S. near San Diego, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Daniel Perez, 26, of Blackwater, was wanted in connection with aggravated assault and armed robbery charges.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested Perez at the Tecate, CA, Port of Entry on several outstanding warrants after confirming his identity. He is currently being held on federal charges.

Perez was initially indicted by a federal grand jury in Phoenix in January 2011. A superseding indictment, returned in June 2012, alleges that Perez interfered with commerce by threats, violence and robbery; used a firearm in a crime of violence; was a felon in possession of a firearm; and stole firearms from a federally licensed firearms dealer.

Perez was charged by the Pinal County Attorney's Office with two counts of aggravated assault on police officers, misconduct involving weapons and felony theft.

On Dec. 10, 2010, Perez and two other companions ran into a Coolidge Ace Hardware store and stole a gun case containing seven firearms and ammunition, the ATF said.

On the same day, Department of Public Safety Officers encountered him on an unrelated case. In an attempt to escape, Perez pointed a firearm at the officers and then attempted to steal a patrol car, ATF said. Perez was shot and wounded by DPS officers and taken into custody.
