Invoice scam targets Arizona small businesses

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Arizona small business owners are being targeted by an official-looking invoice that attempts to make them believe they need to pay for services they never purchased.

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne is telling small-business owners to be wary of this scam and advises careful review of invoices before paying up.

The scam claims to be a warranty covering "telecom maintenance" and requests a $425 maintenance fee. The invoice contains a reference number and maintenance terms and agreement.

Persons who have been victimized are asked to contact the attorney general's office at 602-542-5763; in Tucson at 520-628-6504, or other parts of the state at 1-800-352-8431.

Complaints can be filed online at the Arizona Attorney General's website.
