PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Police and Silent Witness are seeking information that will lead to an arrest in the fatal beating of an 82-year-old Phoenix woman.
Police said Nancy Newton was attacked after discovering a burglar in her home at 3134 N. 28th St. on April 22.
Police said Newton was in her home when she encountered a man who punched her in the face and beat her. The suspect fled, and it took Newton an hour before she was able to call police.
She was taken to a hospital, where police said they were able to talk with her. She told them she believed her attacker was not white but could not provide any more specifics, police said.
She also told police someone had broken into her house through her carport and stolen money April 19 or 20.
Police said they were unsure if the two crimes were connected.
Newton's condition worsened and she died April 26. Medical examiners said they believed her injuries contributed to her death and the death was ruled a homicide.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS, 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
