PHOENIX (CBS5) -
You may soon see two new high-rise buildings in downtown Phoenix.
The Phoenix City Council just approved the new buildings that will be built in the heart of the city.
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton said it's a sign that the economy is improving.
Stanton also wants the design of the buildings at ground level to be walking friendly so he put together a committee of downtown neighbors to work with developers and architects to make sure they come up with the best designs.
"It's important that high-rise buildings in the heart of the city work not just for the tenants of that building, but also work for the residents in general, as downtown is a neighborhood," said Stanton.
Mayor Stanton said we may end up with two of the most walkable buildings in the city with plenty of shade and interesting ground-level architecture.
