PD: Man shot to death while walking with girlfriend

Investigators comb the scene on 51st Avenue where a man was shot and killed Monday night.

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

An 18-year-old man was shot and killed while walking with his girlfriend in Laveen on Monday night, according to Phoenix police.

Dewight Westbrook was walking along 51st Avenue near West Baseline Road with his girlfriend about 9:30 p.m. when a man in a black "hoodie" walked up behind them and fired, striking only Westbrook, police said.

Two friends walking ahead of Westbrook and his girlfriend ran for safety and called police, but could provide no further description of the suspect or which direction he ran, police said.

Phoenix Police said anyone with information should call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS. Callers can remain anonymous.
