MESA, AZ (AP) -
The city of Mesa has given initial approval on a plan to bring a satellite campus of Wilkes University to town.
Mesa City Council authorized on Monday that City Manager Chris Brady sign a memorandum of understanding with the Wilkes-Barre, Penn.-based school.
Under the agreement, the city and the university will negotiate a five-year lease to have Wilkes University in the Mesa Center for Higher Education by fall of 2013.
The school plans to offer master's degrees in business administration, engineering management, creative writing, teaching English as a second language and classroom technology beginning in January 2013 at a temporary location.
Wilkes is the fourth institution of college this year to announce plans to locate in Mesa.
