Flashlights raise suspicions
MESA, AZ (CBS5) -
A suspicious yellow flashlight found in the roadway at Val Vista and Broadway on Saturday night checked out OK, Mesa police said.
When officers arrived, they located the 6-volt flashlight in the middle of the intersection.
All traffic was blocked in every direction, and the intersection was sealed off by crime scene tape.
Members of the bomb team X-rayed the flashlight and found it contained no explosives.
The flashlight raised concern after multiple flashlights have exploded around the Valley in recent months.
Explosive-laden flashlights first surfaced in Glendale in May when two of the devices were found miles apart on consecutive days. Three people were injured.
A third device that exploded May 24 at the Salvation Army injured two people.
