Nicolas Bond
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -
By just looking at him, you can't tell anything is wrong with 19-month-old Nicolas Bond.
He looks like a normal kid who loves music. But what you can't see is that he has bone marrow failure. His parents found out last November after a routine checkup.
"We get a call from the pediatrician, we need to go to the emergency room right away. That's kind of a shock right there," said father Brent Bond.
Nicolas had to spend his first birthday in a hospital bed, undergoing tests. Doctors still don't know what to diagnose him with.
"It's hard to fully understand it, what does that mean?" said mother Veronica Villanueva.
Doctors recommended a bone marrow transplant.
"Nicolas' risk to develop Leukemia, as far as I understand, there is a risk for that, so the bone marrow transplant means a lot for us now," said Villanueva.
She said there are more people who need transplants than there are donors.
"All we have is the hope to find a donor soon."
They need it to be soon so that little Nicolas can continue to make his music.
Monday is National Bone Marrow Drive Day.
