Desert Tortoise Cove
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
The names of two brothers who drowned at Lake Pleasant on Saturday have been released.
They are identified as 19-year-old Dan Nguyen and 20-year-old Thanh "Matt" Nguyen, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Peoria fire spokesman Tom Tendley said Thanh Nguyen was swimming across a 180-foot cove near the Desert Tortoise campground and began to have trouble making it across.
Tendley said his brother, Dan, went to help and he got into trouble himself. Both men ended up drowning.
Tendley said some off-duty lifeguards pulled the brothers out of the water and tried to give CPR.
"I went down and there was a second guy, 10 to 12 feet down, said Carlos Lutts. "I pulled him out and did CPR on him until somebody came."
Peoria fire officials said alcohol and drugs do not seem to be factors.
