PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Dehydration and heatstroke killed a missing hiker whose body was found early Friday morning, the medical examiner's office said.

Ken Clark's body was found about 2 a.m. Friday in an area known as the Garden Area, about two miles from the First Water Trailhead in the Superstition Mountains. Sprong said he was found under a tree by MCSO search and rescue members with the help of a search dog.

Sprong said Clark appeared to have been deceased for a number of days, and that there were no signs of foul play.

Clark, of Gilbert, had been missing since July 1, when he went on a hike in the mountains east of Mesa. Deputies found his car near the First Water Trailhead.

Clark was an avid hiker with no medical history, according to his family, and he knew trails in the Superstition Mountains well.

He is survived by his wife, Heather, three children and 10 grandchildren.

Heather Clark said she lost her first husband to a 1985 blizzard in Payson, where search and rescue teams worked for 12 days looking for him.
