A man believed to be involved in a domestic violence dispute was shot and killed by a Show Low police officer after he reportedly threatened officers with a sword.
The Show Low Police Department said they received a call about a family fight in an apartment at 100 W. Cooley at about 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said the suspect's grandfather told police his grandson, Kent Brewer, 19, of Show Low was inside the apartment with two other grandchildren, ages 4 and 13, and he was armed with a sword. The grandfather said his grandson made comments about using the weapon against police.
Police said they contacted the man and he came down the hallway at the two officers with the sword raised above his shoulder.
When Brewer did not drop the sword, one of the officers shot Brewer twice in the chest, and he was pronounced dead.
No officers or family members of the suspect were hurt.
As department policy, both officers were placed on administrative leave. Their names are not being released at this time.
