PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Two men broke into a central Phoenix gun store, but one was caught by police within seconds.

The men smashed the window of a neighboring business, smashed a hole right through the wall of Legendary Guns and made their way into the gun store just before 3 a.m. Wednesday.

From there, the men went after several rifles. They took at least eight rifles and four handguns.

Some of the guns were loaded, but what the men didn't realize was that the store's silent alarm had been triggered. Police arrived to the store at 5130 N. 19th Ave. before the men managed to escape.

Police said when they pulled up, the men dropped their loot and tried to run.

Police said Joshua Garcia, 23, was found hiding at a nearby home. When he refused to comply with officers, he was bit by a police K-9. Garcia was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released to officers.

The owner of the store said he is pleased with the results but fears how much worse it could have been.

"They could have got guns. We have strong reason to think that there were no guns taken; we've got a pretty good inventory system and we'll know within two to three hours. Plus, we have cameras in there so we'll have pictures of everything that transpired," owner Dave Larue said.

Phoenix police said the second suspect was not found.

No one was hurt, and no weapons were taken.
