PHOENIX (CBS5) -
This Fourth of July holiday, the Arizona Humane Society is reminding pet owners to take precautions to ensure their pets remain safe.
Each year more pets go missing on the Fourth of July than any other day of the year.
In the event that a pet does go missing, the Arizona Humane Society suggests people should take the following steps immediately:
- Have a good and recent photo of your pet handy in case you need to create a flyer
- Make sure you pet has proper identification including a microchip
- Post flyers in 1-mile radius of your home and at veterinary/emergency clinics in the area
- Post missing pets on Craigslist (Arizona Humane Society's alternative placement department reunites the majority of pets and their owners through Craigslist posts. Last year, they were responsible for reuniting more than 1,000 lost pets with their owners.)
- File a report with Missing Mutts (and Cats) at 480-898-8914
- Visit Arizona Humane Society's Sunnyslope location, 1521 W. Dobbins Rd., as well as Maricopa County Animal Care and Control
