SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Scottsdale City Council selected Public Works Executive Director Dan Worth to become acting city manager until someone is recruited into the position full time.

The council members voted unanimously with one condition - he will not pursue the position for a permanent basis.

Worth began working for the city in 2004 as a city engineer and became the Public Works executive director in 2006.

"My priority will be to provide stability while our dedicated and professional city staff continue to provide top quality services to Scottsdale's residents and visitors," Worth said.

Worth will be temporarily replacing former City Manager David E. Richert who resigned June 3, stating there was not sufficient support by the mayor or city council to remain effective in his position.

Richert began working for the city in 2008 and served as city manager the past two years. He was Scottsdale's fourth city manager in a little more than four years
