PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -
A handgun found in a Phoenix canal could be linked to a murder last year, Phoenix police said Tuesday.
Oswaldo Rodriguez, 25, was killed during an armed robbery of the Yerberia San Simon store at 505 W. Hatcher on March 3, 2011.
Rodriguez was a nephew of the store owner.
Rodriguez was shot in the head during a struggle with two men who demanded money, police said. The investigation indicated Rodriguez fought for his life when he was threatened by the suspect, said Officer James Holmes with the Phoenix Police Department.
Rodriguez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A police dive team searched a city canal and said they found a handgun that could be linked to the shooting.
Jesus Blas Garcia, 38, was taken into custody Tuesday. Police investigators said evidence left at the murder scene already has been linked to Garcia.
