Yavapai County official proposes museum donation

PRESCOTT, AZ (AP) -

A Yavapai County official has proposed a $50,000 donation to a struggling museum in Prescott.

The Daily Courier in Prescott reports that Supervisor Carol Springer proposed giving the Sharlot Hall Museum $40,000 that has been sitting unused after a land trade and another unused $10,000 that was previously allocated to a county centennial committee.

Springer says the museum is important to the county and that the Legislature, which created the museum, has failed to fund it.

The museum's board voted in June to cut its budget, eliminate staff and reduce hours for some other employees as it faced a $170,000 shortfall.

Prescott Valley Town Council Member Lora Lee Nye says $3,000 of the centennial committee's money has already been promised for a statue to be placed in Prescott Valley.
