TUCSON, AZ (AP) -
A Tucson man accused of robbing a drug store and killing a motorist in an ensuing police chase is facing up to 48 1/2 years in prison.
Pima County prosecutors said 45-year-old Patrick Filomeno Gutierrez entered a plea agreement Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, robbery and two counts of endangerment in connection with the incident on April 1, 2011.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 27.
The Arizona Daily Star said Gutierrez has paranoid schizophrenia and wasn't taking his medications when he shoplifted some items from a drug store.
Gutierrez fled in his car and was spotted by county sheriff's deputies, who gave chase.
They said Gutierrez ran a red light and collided with a vehicle driven by 73-year-old Joseph Marques, who was killed in the crash.
