Valerie Galat
PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Police arrested a Phoenix woman sleeping in her car Saturday for allegedly having methamphetamines and endangering her son who was playing in a parking lot.
An employee at an OfficeMax near Ninth Street and Phelps Road called police after noticing a sleeping woman and a child playing in the parking lot. The employee looked after the child before police arrived.
Police tried to wake the sleeping woman, later identified as Valerie Star Galat, 27, and she only woke up when an officer knocked on the door, police said. Galat was speaking softly and incoherently, police said.
Galat admitted to an officer that she had Vicodin, which she did not take, methamphetamines and a pipe in her car. She told police a friend gave her the drugs the previous day and she used the drug for the past year.
She also told police she didn't know what her 5-year-old son was doing in the parking lot while she was asleep, police said.
Galat was arrested and booked on one count of possessing a dangerous drug and one count of child abuse.
