TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

The new president of the University of Arizona has officially taken over as the school's new top leader.

Ann Weaver Hart has officially taken over as the 21st president of the university, the Arizona Daily Star reported.

Hart worked previously as the president of Temple University in Philadelphia.

She will do the job long-distance for the first week until she starts working at her office on the university July 9.

Hart is the first woman to ever hold the post at the Tucson school.

She replaces Eugene G. Sander.

Sander, a longtime dean of the university's agriculture college, had served as interim president after then-university president Robert Shelton resigned to become executive director of the Fiesta Bowl.
