PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Pedigree brand dog food issued a voluntary recall on specific cans of its wet food variety over the weekend, citing a potential choking risk.

Pedigree reported small pieces of blue plastic found in cans of the brand's wet dog food.

The affected products were Pedigree's Healthy Weight Premium Ground Entree in Meaty Juices, Pedigree's Weight Management Meaty Ground Beef and Liver Dinner in Meaty Juices and Pedigree's Weight Management Meaty Ground Chicken and Rice Dinner in Meaty Juices, according to company spokesmen.

Pedigree said the company has not received any reports of injury or illness, although a small number of consumers have reported finding the plastic pieces.

Consumers who have purchased the affected product are encouraged to discard the food or return it to the retailer for a full refund or exchange, Pedigree spokesmen said.

If you've purchased a can, you can call 1-877-720-3335.
