Heat intolerant 8-year-old tries to survive Phoenix summer

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Almost everyone in the Valley probably gets sick of the heat at one point in the summer, but one Phoenix boy truly gets sick from the heat.  And he tries all summer to avoid the sizzling temperatures.

Alexander Marlow, 8, has a lot of health issues. He has spina bifida, can't walk and has to use a catheter. On top of it all, he is heat intolerant.

Alexander and his mom, Ginger Marlowe, stay inside their apartment almost all the time.  If he's outside for just a few minutes, it could be dangerous.

"His body can't recognize that he's too hot, so he can't sweat to cool himself down, which means internally he can boil.  Literally, boil.  He could die from it," said Ginger.

Once of month, Ginger needs to go to the grocery store.  When they do, they take a cab because she worries about using the bus.

"The bus doesn't show, or it's late or the bus itself doesn't have air condition...  there's so many ways to put him at risk... I can't," Ginger said.

They are raising money to try to move to a milder climate in California.  If you would like to donate go to http://www.gofundme.com/rcvd4.
