PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Arizona Cardinals player Darryn Colledge is helping to launch Macy's and Reading Is Fundamental's "Be Book Smart" campaign Thursday afternoon.

The effort is a nationwide push to promote literacy for underprivileged children.

The "Be Book Smart" program gives Macy's customers the opportunity to give $3 to provide a book for a local child.

Customers who donate receive a coupon good for $10 on in-store purchases exceeding $50. One-hundred percent of the donation goes to Reading Is Fundamental.

Colledge will be reading to children at Macy's Scottsdale Fashion Square store at 4 p.m.

The fundraising effort will continue until July 31.
