PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A 24-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a June 22 home invasion that saw a 14-year-old boy shoot one of the suspects.

Alexis Hinojos was booked into jail on charges of first-degree burglary.

Earlier, a 37-year-old man was released from the hospital and booked into jail on several charges in connection with the crime, police said.

Richard S. Fiore was charged with four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of felony first-degree burglary and two counts of felony prohibited possession of a firearm Wednesday, police said.

Police found Fiore laying in the doorway at 5500 W. Minton when they arrived, police said.

An investigation determined the 14-year-old had been home with his three younger siblings when Hinojos rang the doorbell, police said. The teenager did not open the door and moments later he heard a loud bang at the door.

Police said the teen took his siblings upstairs and got a handgun. When the teen returned to the top of the staircase he saw Fiore break through the front door and point a gun at him.

The teen fired his gun, hitting Fiore, who fell to the floor, according to police.

Police said the teen then called his parents and took his siblings and ran to the home of a neighbor.

Phoenix police are warning residents that recent home invasion and burglary methods have involved one person knocking on the door. If there is no response, the suspects will force entry to commit a burglary.

Police are advising residents that if a stranger shows up at their house unannounced or unscheduled not to open the door. Police want residents to tell the person, through the door, they are not interested in speaking with them. If they do not leave, residents are advised to tell them they are on the phone and calling police.

If the person leaves, police said they still want residents to call and report the incident.
