SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -
You may have noticed it's hot out there, but do you know the signs of heat-related stress?
Because of an excessive heat warning by the National Weather Service, Scottsdale fire officials are worried that some Valley residents can't tell if someone is suffering from heat-related problems until it's too late.
"If your body stops sweating, you've reached that point where you're kind of behind the eight ball. You need to stop the activities, you need to get inside and cool off and you need to start to hydrate pretty quickly," explained Capt. Andrew McDonald.
Heat-related symptoms include heavy sweating, paleness, headaches, nausea, dizziness, shallow breathing and a rapid but weakened pulse rate.
McDonald also said that if heat exhaustion is left untreated, it can progress to heat stroke.
