SANTA BARBARA, CA (CBS5) -

An Avondale father with terminal cancer is fulfilling his dream of visiting the ocean with his family.

The Dream Foundation announced that Joseph Perez, 49, his two daughters, son-in-law and two young grandchildren are headed to San Diego over Father's Day weekend.

Perez was diagnosed with end-stage colon cancer in 2010 and given two months to live. He recently found out that his chemotherapy failed.

The trip will be the first time the avid fisherman or his family have seen the ocean. He hopes to fish from a dock because he is too weak to head out in a boat.

The Dream Foundation also gave the family tickets to Sea World San Diego and a photography session.

"We are so glad Joseph is able define his last days with his family, the tranquil setting of the sea, and photos to serve as tangible reminders of time spent together," Dream Foundation Representative Erinn Lynch said. "So often this is what dreams are about: time with loved ones, away from disease."
