Pelican takes last flight in AZ

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

It was "Penny" the pelican's lucky day Thursday as she boarded a plane for her new home.

A manager at Liberty Wildlife Rehabilitation Foundation, who is also a captain at U.S. Airways, helped the American white pelican get a flight from Phoenix to the Birmingham Zoo in Alabama where she will live her life in an aquatic habitat.

Penny was rescued this fall after suffering tendon damage to her wing. Veterinarians said Penny can never be released into the wild again.
