Black Canyon City mobile home fire
BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ (CBS5) -
The neighbors of a man who was burned in a mobile home fire in Black Canyon City in May will be recognized by fire officials this week.
Boyd Smith suffered third-degree burns after his home went up in flames.
The fire, on East Saguaro Lane, also severely damaged numerous vehicles. The home was a total loss.
Several adults and three children were sleeping in the home at the time of the fire. All were able to eventually escape except for Smith, who has disabilities. The other adult family members had to assist in rescuing their relative from an area near the front door, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said.
Neighbors also arrived to help Smith from the burning home.
On Saturday, July 7, at 10 a.m., the Black Canyon Fire Department will recognize the neighbors who helped rescue Smith from his home on May 18, 2012.
Investigators said they do not believe arson was involved. Detectives are continuing their investigation.
