Car wash held to help Derek Limon's family
TOLLESON, AZ (CBS5) -
A second car wash is being held this weekend for the family of a man found in a car submerged in an Avondale canal early Friday morning.
Savannah Moreno said they're holding the fundraiser Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Fuego Bar and Grill at 9118 West Van Buren St. in Tolleson.
Organizers have also set up an account through Bank of America under "Derek Limon Memorial Fund" for those wishing to donate.
A car wash Sunday at Pina's Bar raised more than $500.
The victim was 27-year-old Derek Limon, who leaves behind three children.
A 911 call was received by Phoenix police at 3:11 a.m. from a passer-by at 99th Avenue and Thomas Road, according to Detective Reuben Gonzales of the Avondale Police Department.
A witness said Limon's car braked just south of Thomas, then flipped into the canal.
Avondale police arrived and tried to get to the car, but fast water flows stymied their attempts, Gonzales said.
No drugs or alcohol were found in the car and the cause of death will be determined pending the results of a toxicology report from the medical examiner's office.
No foul play is suspected at this time.
