Not all 50 states have laws regarding same-sex marriage on the books. Here is a list of what states have which laws according to Freedom to Marry.

Same-sex marriage is legal in six states:

  • Connecticut
  • Iowa
  • Massachusetts
  • New Hampshire
  • New York
  • Vermont
  • D.C.

Nine states have domestic partnerships or civil unions:

  • California
  • Delaware
  • Hawaii
  • Illinois
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • Washington

Four states have limited domestic partnership laws:

  • Colorado
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Wisconsin

The following states have constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage:
