Neurological surgery doesn't get in way of citizenship dream

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Nothing was going to stop a University of Arizona student from Africa from getting her U.S. citizenship Friday, not even neurological surgery.

Twenty-year-old Msimbi Kikuyu, or SimSim as she's known by friends, had neurological surgery just two weeks ago.

An immigration official went to Saint Joseph's Hospital to give the Kenyan native her U.S. citizenship test since SimSim could not leave the hospital to make her scheduled interview.

Friday, SimSim and the rest of her family joined 200 other people to get sworn in as citizens at the Sandra Day O'Connor Federal Courthouse in Phoenix.
