PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A Mesa doctor accused of fondling 19 of his patients during pacemaker surgery in the east Valley has pleaded guilty to 18 counts of aggravated assault.

Dr. Richard Lewis was originally arrested in June 2009 by Mesa police for claims made by two patients. Many other women came forward and the investigation expanded.

The women alleged similar conduct by Lewis going back to 2004. The County Attorney's Office reviewed those allegations and police reports before seeking charges.

Lewis worked at Advanced Cardiac Services of Mesa. The facility terminated Lewis shortly after his arrest. The indictment alleges the crimes took place between December 2004 and June 2009.

Lewis entered into an agreement to temporarily suspend his medical license in the state of Arizona.

He's scheduled to be sentenced on June 14.
