Police: Crews looking for missing girl still have hope

GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

It's been 13 weeks since crews started their search for the body of little Jhessye Shockley in a Valley landfill, but there's still no sign of her.

Jhessye has been missing for months.

Police believe she was killed and her body dumped in the trash.

Glendale police believe they know the area of the Butterfield landfill where her body would have ended up.

Crews have now sifted through 70 percent of that area going through 400 to 500 tons of trash a week, and police say there is still hope.

"We have a lot of new people out there. Every month there's a whole new set of volunteers with a whole new attitude and excitement about being out there and hopeful that they're going to locate Jhessye so spirits actually stay high," explained Tracey Breedan with Glendale police.

She did say it's tough for people who've been involved in the search from week to week.

More than 185 people from agencies all over the Valley have been trained to help in the search.
