Fire burns 3 Mesa homes, 9 people displaced

Posted: Updated:

Three homes in a Mesa neighborhood were considered total losses, and nine people were looking for places to stay after a fire swept through the residences Friday afternoon.

A Mesa Fire Department spokesman said firefighters had not been able to determine why the fire was able to spread so rapidly to the homes that were adjacent to each other. The cause of the fire was not known, he said.

Eight adults and one child were displaced, according to the spokesman. No residents or firefighters were injured.

Four dogs were kenneled at one of the homes, and three were found to be healthy. One was still missing, the spokesman said.

Firefighters were called to the first-alarm fire just before 1 p.m. Friday at 606 W. Kiowa Ave., near Extension and Baseline roads. Homes at 604 and 568 W. Kiowa Ave. also burned.

More than 70 firefighters were on the scene with 10 fire engines and four ladder trucks also on scene.

Helicopter news footage showed extensive damage to the single-level homes in the area.

No other information was immediately available.
