If you are looking for a little inspiration for your Friday, look no further than a Buckeye teen who brought a crowd to its feet for his courage while battling a fight with cancer.
For most kids at the Maricopa County Fair, they are laughing and enjoying the rides without a care in the world, but you'll find 13-year-old Clayton Turner hanging out over at the livestock barn. He has been through quite a ride of his own.
"It's a little tough. You get stomach sick and start throwing up," said Clayton Turner.
Clayton of Buckeye found out early this year that his life would be changing.
His dad said, "He has a type of cancer called Ewing Sarcoma, it's very rare."
Clayton was just finishing up five days of harsh chemotherapy on Tuesday, but he's a member of 4H and that was the day before he was supposed to show his nearly 250-pound pig.
Hours before the completion, Clayton's good cell count was high enough to allow him to have the immunity to be in public, and Clayton's dad said his son came out swinging.
"By the grace of God, things happened and they happen for a reason and he got put in there and he won the reserve grand. It was really neat," said Chad Turner.
Clayton and his no-name pig brought a room full of competitors to their feet when he snagged the title of reserve grand champion in a moment that no one will ever forget.
"My heart was racing and I'm not even sure I was breathing I was so nervous," said Clayton, "I was so excited. I was very thankful."
There is a Facebook page dedicated to Clayton if you would like to follow his progress.
His father said Clayton has another round of chemotherapy coming up soon.
His pig is expected to bring in some big bucks at the auction Sunday held in Phoenix at the Maricopa County Fair.
