Mesa police have released the identity of the suspect arrested in connection with a shooting outside a Home Depot in Mesa on Thursday night.
Ivan Ernesto Eskivel, 22, was booked into the MCSO detention facility on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of misconduct involving weapons.
The victim, a 49-year-old Apache Junction resident, was sitting inside his truck parked in the Home Depot parking lot at 1545 S. Crismon Road, said Sgt. Ed Wessing of the Mesa Police Department.
Eskivel confronted the victim and the two got into a physical altercation, Wessing said. Eskivel pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the head, Wessing said. Twenty minutes after the shooting, a Mesa Police Department sergeant saw a possible match of the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound on the 202 at Hawes Road.
The sergeant followed the vehicle as it exited Loop 202 at Williams Field Road. The driver proceeded through a red light, causing a minor collision with another vehicle, Wessing said. Eskivel was then taken into custody without further incident.
The victim remains in critical condition.
