Authorities say a Maricopa County jail inmate tried to escape Saturday morning but was caught before he could get away.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says 27-year-old Benjamin Christian of Glendale tried to escape from the Durango Jail by successfully climbing one of two 15-foot chain-link fences.
Christian was caught before he got to the second fence.
He was brought to a hospital for treatment for numerous cuts that he suffered to his arms and legs from barbed wire atop the first fence.
The sheriff's office says Christian has jailed without bond since he was booked on May 12 on drug and weapons charges.
Sheriff's officials say Christian is likely to face an attempted escape charge.
