Four coyotes attacked a small dog in a backyard in Peoria which is an attack that happened just days before three people were bitten.

"Turn around, look here," said Peggy Johnson while she was talking to her 6-year-old Pomeranian named Martin.

"It was horrifying, it was probably the worst sound that I have ever heard," she said.

Johnson said she woke up to the sound of four coyotes attacking him and biting him, "On his back, above his shoulders," she said. "Then here he's got his little staples where they went after the jugular."

The dog also had bites on his stomach. The whole thing happened right in the backyard and Johnson said, "They were just right here on top of him and his little head was coming out this way and he just looked at me coming out the door like 'Save me.'"

Johnson also said the coyotes jumped her cinder block wall that stands over 5 feet tall so many times that the paint is scratched off.

The attack on Johnson's dog happened a week ago Thursday in Peoria, which is just days before three people were bitten in the Vistancia community of the same town.

Johnson said she believes the coyotes are over-populated and are on the hunt for food.

"I'm scared to be out after dark," she said. "I do not come out after dark, our dogs do not come out after dark."

The animal survived.
