PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

A 60-year-old man has died after he rode his bicycle across a dimly-lit Phoenix street and was hit by a car.

Phoenix Police said Jose Asencion Mendoza was riding a bike pulling a homemade trailer around 7 p.m. Wednesday when he tried to cross 35th Avenue about a half-mile north of Camelback Road.

A southbound sedan struck the bicycle. Mendoza wasn't wearing a helmet and died of his injuries at a hospital.

Neither the car driver, a 28-year-old woman, nor the 12-year-old girl riding with her were injured. The driver wasn't impaired.
